Difference between jet condensers and surface condensers

Difference between jet condensers and surface condensers: In this article we will learn about the difference between jet condensers and surface condensers. the detailed explanation about jet condensers and surface condensers difference is as follows:

Jet Condensers:

  • In Jet Condensers Cooling water get in contact/mix with the hot steam to condensate the steam.
  • Jet condenser required a Low amount of water for circulation.
  • Due to the steam and water comes in contact with each other impurities may present in it, so they cannot be used again.
  • Jet condensers are less useful for high capacity plants.
  • Maintenance is low.
  • Easy in design/construction.
  • Less cost in installation.
  • To pump water for circulation power used is less.
  • Space used for this type of condenser is less.

Surface Condensers:

  • In Surface Condensers cooling water does not get in contact/mix with the hot steam to condensate the steam.
  • Surface condensers required a Large amount of water is for circulation.
  • Due to non-contacting of water and steam it does not contains any impurities, so it can be reused again.
  • Surface condensers are highly used for high capacity plants.
  • Maintenance is high.
  • This design is a little complex.
  • It is high in cost.
  • To pump water for circulation power used is more.
  • Space used for it is more.
