Austenitizing temperature and Homogeneity of Austenite

Austenitizing Temperature:

Austenitizing Temperature:Austenitizing is a heat treatment process, that applies to the steel to change the complete structure into the austenite phase. this is possible when the steel heated up to austenite temperature. The heat treatment up to austenitizing temperature is not constant, this differs for different composition of the steel. To take control over the main and important factors like carbide solution, grain size and the hardness of metal etc.. this austenitizing temperature plays an important role.

Homogeneity of Austenite:

Homogeneity of austenite is said to be that the carbon content should be uniform of austenite grains, At the time of hardening when the temperature above the lower critical austenite is used to obtain in hypereutectoid steel, and at the same time when there is a temperature of upper critical austenite is used to form in proeutectoid ferrite.Due to the difference in lower critical and upper critical temperature to form austenite, which is not a common  formation at austenite, the carbon content is not inuniform. In this, the formation of a hard structure is possible when there is a high amount of carbon present in grain and this type of system undergoes to slow rate of cooling.

And when there is a low amount of carbon content in grains then they form into bainite, due to the fast critical cooling rate.Homogeneity of austenite shows an impact on hardness, structure etc..for a better improvement in properties homogeneity of austenite is important, this can be formed when there is a fast rate in diffusion of carbon. and if the carbon content is not uniform then the hardness of metal changes according to it.with the help of austenitizing temperature heat treatment the required hardness of the metal is obtained.
