Pickering Governor Construction, Working and Equations

Pickering Governor Construction, Working and Equations:

Pickering governor:

Pickering Governor is a simple speed controlling governor. Pickering governor consists of a spindle, Nut, Spring, Weights, and sleeve. The weights used in the governor is accurate and placed in equal angles between them. The governor used to control the speed according to the rotation of the weights attached to the spring as shown in the figure. If the speed should be increased then the sleeve of the governor should rise to maximum height but in Pickering governor, the speed cannot be increased more the other types of governors like the proell governor, porter governor, Hartnell governor, and watt governor.Pickering governor is used for small and low-speed engines.

Working of Pickering Governor:

The Pickering governor used to control the speed with the help of sleeve momentum. sleeve of the governor used to move up and down according to the rotational speed of the weights attached to the spring, this spring fixed to the spindle with the help of nut. when the weights rotated with high speed the spring gets stretched and sleeve attached to the bottom of the spring moves in upward by this the speed can be increased and speed  decreased when the rotation of weights decreases which helps to move the sleeve to the bottom of the spindle.

Construction of Pickering Governor:

The Pickering governor consist of a long spindle, on the top of the spindle the spring is attached with the help of nut and weights are placed in the middle of the spring as shown in figure, and at the bottom of the spring sleeve is attached and supported by the spindle. the momentum of the sleeve is along the spindle with respect to the rotation of weights.
