Difference between Velocity Compounding Turbine and Pressure Compounding Turbine

Difference between Velocity Compounding Turbine and Pressure Compounding Turbine:

Velocity Compounding Turbine:

Velocity Compounding Turbine (VCT) on the other hand is an impulse turbine that takes advantage of the velocity energy released by the rotating blades to drive compressors.

Pressure Compounding Turbine:

Pressure Compounding Turbine (PCT) is a kind of centrifugal compressor that has high pressure and low speed. This machine works by dividing the airflow into many streams, each of which is accelerated separately.

Difference between Velocity Compounding Turbine and Pressure Compounding Turbine?

Velocity Compounding Turbine generates power with the help of centrifugal force whereas Pressure Compounding Turbine generates power with the help of both air pressure and kinetic energy from flowing fluid.

Velocity Compounding Turbine is basically a compressor that has an impeller that drives the vanes of the blades to create air pressure for generating power.

Pressure Compounding Turbine is a type of turbine where the kinetic energy from flowing fluid enters into a spinning shaft which acts as a generator or alternator to generate electricity.

Velocity Compounding Turbine much better quality output than Pressure Compounding.

Pressure Compounding Turbine is less expensive than its counterparts because no additional pumping system or power source is required for operation.

Pressure Compounding Turbine has low friction losses due to its high rotational speed.

Velocity Compounding Turbine utilizes the principles of pressure compounding. The principle works on the basis of velocity instead of pressure.

Pressure Compounding Turbine utilizes high pressure to make effective use of kinetic energy.

Velocity Compounding Turbine does not require a lubrication system.

Pressure Compounding Turbine required a lubrication system.

Velocity Compounding Turbine has no pre-mixing process that takes place before compression.

Pressure Compounding Turbine requires pre-mixing before compression.

pressure compounding turbines can run with lower volume and require less power so they are more efficient in power usage.

Velocity Compounding Turbines require very large volumes and powerful motors/generators.

pressure compounding turbines uses less power compaired to Velocity Compounding Turbines.
