Coupling rod of a locomotive

COUPLING ROD OF A LOCOMOTIVE OR DOUBLE CRANK MECHANISM

The mechanism of a locomotive which consist of four links, in this mechanism the link AB and BC act as Crank , AB is a fixed points on the two wheels in which they are connected to the respective wheels. AB is used to maintain equal distance from one center of circle to next center of circle. The link CD act as coupling rod,

this method is used to Transfer the rotary motion from one wheel to another wheel.

DOUBLE LEVER MECHANISM(WATT’S INDICATOR MECHANISM):

A WATT’S indicator mechanism which consist of four links, the four links are A, AC, CE and BFD. The action of moving the link BFD is directly proportional to the gas or steam pressure, this pressure of gas or steam acts on the indicator plunger. The initial position of the mechanism is shown in figure by full lines. the mechanism is shown in dotted lines, this is says about the position when there is a pressure acting on indicator plunger.
