Cornish Boiler: Construction and Working Principle of Cornish Boiler

Cornish Boiler

Cornish Boiler: Cornish boiler is a horizontal boiler which has an internal fire tube boiler. Cornish Boiler has long horizontal cylinder with a single large flue containing the fire. This Cornish boiler consist of shell, tubes, flues, chimney, stop valve, safety valve, blow of cock, grate, ash pit.

Main Parts of Cochran boiler:

Shell:

Shell is the overall cover part of the boiler which contains different parts in it for further function.

Grate:

Great is the part where heat is developed with the help of fuel burning init.

Furnace:

Furnace is a place where the fuel used to enter and burns in it.

Combustion chamber:

This is used to supply the heat generated by burning fuel to fire tubes where heat is exchanged to water.

Chimney:

A chimney is a long vertical tube where the waste gases used to pass into the atmosphere with the help of a smoke box.

Water level indicator:

This is used to identify the water level in the boiler and used to send signals when there is a low amount of water present init.

Construction of Cornish Boiler:

  • Cornish boiler has the long shell,
  • It consists of only one tube in it. and it consists of the grate where the heat is produced in it.
  • When the heat is developed and transferring through tubes there is a possibility of ash entering into tubes to prevent this brick arc is provided.
  • Water is supplied by the help of the feed pump.
  • In this there is a safety valve to prevent the high pressure in the boiler, this removes the excess pressure in it.

Working Principle of Cornish Boiler:

  • Cornish boiler is a horizontal boiler which has an internal fire tube boiler. This boiler consist of shell, tubes, flues, chimney, stop valve, safety valve, blow of cock, grate, ash pit.
  • When Cornish boiler compared to Lancashire boiler it has a single flue tube. In Cornish boiler, the shell is used to collect the impurities of water which is supplied to it.
  • In this, the hot gases flow through the tubes and water used to surround these tubes. these tubes are pleased with the center of the boiler shell. the hot gas after passing through the tubes and it then passes to the front portion and then it enters into the back portion of the boiler these gases are released into the atmosphere by the help of chimney.
  • In this, the capacity of steam is produced about 6500 kg/h and about 11 bar of pressure.

Comparing to Lancashire boiler:

  • The Cornish boiler has a single flue tube, but Lancashire has two tubes.
  • Production of steam is also high than Lancashire boiler. by this, the performance is high in Lancashire boiler.
