Centrifugal Pump: Working Principle, Main Parts, Applications of Centrifugal Pump

Centrifugal pump:

Centrifugal pump:  Centrifugal Pump is a mechanical device, which is used to flow the water/fluid from the lower part to higher parts. centrifugal pumps works with the help of electrical energy to rotate the impeller present in it and this helps to lift the water and supply to a required area. the impeller in it rotates in a fixed axis and helps the water to flow out by centrifugal force along its circumference through the impeller vane tip as shown in fig.

Working of Centrifugal Pump:

At first, we need to check the pump clearly if there is any gas present in it, to remove this gases we need to fill it with water/fluid, now it gets ready to start. when we start the centrifugal pump electrical motor present inside it rotates the impeller and the water is drawn from the tank by the suction pump due to the vacuum produced by the centrifugal action and this makes the fluid/water to flow through the pump with high pressure this is due to the load torque applied on the impeller and on the other side of the pump high-pressure water is used to pass out by the delivery pipe.

Main Parts of centrifugal pump:

Casing:

A casing is the cover part of the centrifugal pump which protects the complete internal portion of the centrifugal pump.

Impeller:

The impeller is used to supply the water with high pressure to the outlet. impeller used to rotate with the help of an electrical motor attached to it.

Suction pipe:

This is used to collect the water/fluid from the storage tank and supplies to impeller.

Delivery pipe:

This is present at the end of the pump to supply the outlet water/fluid which is at high pressure.

Advantages of Centrifugal pump:

  • Space required for this pump is less.
  • This is economical.
  • Installation cost is low.
  • Maintenance of this pump is less.
  • It has high efficiency.
  • This pump used to run with high speed which can connect directly with the electrical motor.
  • In this pump there is uniform discharge.
  • There is a uniform torque in this pump.
  • High viscosity fluids can be lifted by this pump.
