MIG welding or Gas Metal Arc Welding:

MIG or Gas metal arc welding: MIG Welding is also called as Gas Metal Arc Welding. Gas metal arc welding is used to weld the work piece by using a consumable electrode of 0.5 mm to 3.0 mm, with an external gas source is called Gas Metal Arc Welding. Gases like Oxygen, Nitrogen, Helium etc are used for the external supply of gas to weld the work piece by reducing spatter, improves the thermal conductivity etc.This process of welding is used to deep welding, thick metals and it can weld the metal which is not done by TIG welding process. Both the work piece and electrode is connected with constant current supply through them for getting smooth function and provides a stable arc by this method.To decrease the oxidation and porosity of weld deoxidizers are used at the time of the welding process.

Advantages of MIG Welding:

  • The deep weld action can be done by this process.
  • Unnecessary wastes are reduced.
  • The action of depositing metal is more.
  • Complete electrode can be used in it.
  • Time taking process is less at welding.

Disadvantages of MIG Welding:

  • This is high in cost.
  • This is not so easy to carry.
  • We cannot weld different parts with this, due to it does not pass easily to the required part we need.
  • We cannot weld using this when there is heavy wind is flowing.
