Difference between Flooded type evaporator and dry expansion type evaporator

Difference between Flooded type evaporator and dry expansion type evaporator:

Flooded Type Evaporator:

  • The rate of heat transfer is more in flooded type evaporator than dry type.
  • Flooded type evaporator has a complex design.
  • The size of the flooded evaporator is larger than dry type.
  • It required more space to install this evaporator.
  • It required more liquid refrigerant than dry type evaporator.
  • With the help of a float chamber, the liquid refrigerant is supplied into the drum of an evaporator.
  • Flooded type evaporator is used for high capacity systems.

Dry Expansion Type Evaporator:

  • The rate of heat transfer is less in dry type evaporator compared to flooded type evaporator.
  • Dry type evaporator is easy to design.
  • It required less space than flooded type to install.
  • It required less liquid refrigerant comparatively to the flooded type evaporator.
  •  Using a capillary tube controls the supply of liquid refrigerant.
  • This evaporator is used for less capacity systems.
