Types of stresses: definitions

Types of stresses:

In this article, we are going to learn different types of stresses, generally stress is caused due to some force acting on the object, different types of stress depends upon the force acting on the object. there are two types of stresses.

1) Internal Stress.
2) External Stress.

Internal Stress:

Internal stress occurs due to the internal forces acting on the object. internal stress is further divided into different types explained below.

Tensile Stress:

Tensile stress encountered on the object due to the two equal and opposite forces acting on the object.

Torsional Shear Stress:

Torsional shear stress is occurred due to the frictional resistance.

Bending Stress:

Bending stress is caused due to the unequal forces acting opposite to the object.

Shear Stress:

This type of stress is caused due to the two equal and opposite forces acting along a parallel line of action.

Compressive Stress:

This stress is caused due to the two equal and axial pushes.

External Stress:

External stress is caused due to the external forces acting on an object or a body and leads to tensile stress and some time it may lead to a shear load.
