Types of Flat Belt Drives:

Flat Belt Drive Types: Flat Belt Drives are two types they are Open Belt Drive and Crossed Belt Drive. Open belt drives are used when shafts should rotate in same directions. Crossed Belt drives are used when pulleys is in opposite direction. The detailed explanation about Open Belt drive and Crossed belt drive are as follows.

1) Open Belt Drive.

2) Crossed Belt Drive.

Open Belt Drive:

  • This is used when the shafts should rotate in the same direction, and when the shafts are arranged in parallel.
  • As shown in figure A is called Driving pully and B is called Followers.
  • As shown in the figure there are two sides one is tight side and another is the slack side. this is due to when the driving pulley rotates it pulls the belt from the lower side and delivers to the upper side by this Tension is in the lower side and Slack is in the upper side.

Crossed Belt Drive:

  • In this, the rotation of pulleys is in opposite direction. this is due to the belt is crossed one.
  • In this, the driver pulls the belt from one side and delivers it to another side.
  • As shown in the figure the tension is on the lower side and Slack is in the upper side.
